How the numbers are worked out
- Concrete: length × width × thickness gives the volume. One 80 lb bag makes about 0.6 cu ft. We add 10% extra.
- Fence: panels = length ÷ panel width, rounded up. Posts = panels + 1.
- Paint: one gallon covers about 350 sq ft (about 8.6 m² per liter). Multiply by the number of coats.
- Flooring: area plus waste (10% is common, more for diagonal patterns), divided by the coverage per box.
- Sod: area plus 5% extra. One roll is often about 10 sq ft, but check with your supplier.
These are estimates. Always check the coverage printed on the product, and buy a little extra.
FAQ
How thick should a concrete slab be?
Many patios and walkways use about 4 inches (10 cm). Driveways are often thicker. Ask your supplier or a local professional.
Why do I need extra material?
Cuts, mistakes and uneven ground use more than the exact area. Extra also helps if a product is discontinued later.
